Background

Ray J. Rodriguez, MPH (they/them) has spent their lifetime learning the overlapping systems of oppression that impact LGBTQ+ people across intersections of social location and lived experience. From training in social justice via cultural anthropology and sociology, to obtaining a master’s degree in community oriented public health practice at the University of Washington, Ray has cultivated a deep understanding of the ways our diverse community is impacted by harmful policies, structures, and perceptions. With 10 years’ experience as an administrative professional in the health sector, Ray has successfully led initiatives to improve patient outcomes. As a consultant in community health, Ray analyzed data to identify outcomes across race/ethnicity, sexual orientation, and gender, to improve population-specific programming. Ray is currently Co-Owner of Deep Refuge Coaching & Consulting, LLC.

As Communications Chair for the APHA LGBTQ Health Caucus, Ray brings the voice of the community to this national organization’s important work: supporting the health and wellbeing of the LGBTQ+ community.
