Background
Carlin D. Nelson, PhD, MPH, CPH, CHES® (he/him) is an Assistant Professor of Health Sciences at Coppin State University. His work focuses on social and structural determinants of health, urban health inequities, and applied population health research, with particular attention to environmental and behavioral health disparities in historically marginalized communities. Dr. Nelson has held research and training roles with Johns Hopkins University, the AIM-AHEAD Program, Truth Initiative, the Medical University of South Carolina, Nemours Children’s Health, and Maryland Commission of Public Health where he contributed to population health research, data analysis, and community-engaged projects. He is committed to mentoring students and translating data into actionable insights for public health practice and equity-driven decision-making.
