Background

Katherine Buchman, MPH (she/her) is a doctoral candidate in public health at Purdue University, where she studies LGBTQ+ health inequities and safety-net services for LGBTQ+ people through the lens of public health laws and policies.  Prior to pursuing a PhD, she practiced public health for approximately 15 years through work in academia, community-based organizations, and city and state government.  Most recently, Katherine was the Director of Community Engagement and Special Projects for the HIV Prevention program at the Tennessee Department of Health for more than seven years, where she prioritized community work with LGBTQ+ groups affected by HIV, developed and implemented the first PrEP navigation program in the state of Tennessee, and monitored and supported approximately 15-20 behavioral interventions annually.  Katherine has an MPH from the University of Pittsburgh, where she also earned a Certificate in LGBT Health and Wellness, in which she focused on transgender healthcare access.  Additionally, she is a doting auntie, proud cat lady, and slightly obsessed soap-maker.
